The Minister for Crime, Policing and Fire has reached out to the ACMD for guidance on the potential risks of Xylazine and 2-Methyl-AP-237, including their classification and scheduling according to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and related Regulations.
The request for guidance on Xylazine came after the first reported death linked to this drug in the UK. The inquiry into 2-Methyl-AP-237, a synthetic opioid, follows its classification under Schedule 1 of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961 in the 66th session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs earlier this year.
