PM to honor six-year-old with award for exceptional contributions.

This week, during the Prime Minister’s visit to Northern Ireland for the 25th anniversary of the Belfast Good Friday Agreement, he will present six-year-old Dáithí Mac Gabhann with his daily Points of Light award.

The Points of Light awards honor exceptional volunteers and individuals making a difference in their communities.

Today, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with Dáithí and his family to express gratitude for their relentless advocacy for ‘Dáithí’s Law’, which established an ‘opt-out’ organ donation system, aligning Northern Ireland with the rest of the UK.

Their advocacy led the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to advance amendments to the Executive Formation Bill earlier this year, enabling Dáithí’s Law to be enacted and save lives throughout Northern Ireland.

“Daily, I write a letter to acknowledge someone for their extraordinary contributions to others. Today is particularly special, as I have the honor to thank you.

“Your courage and commitment in campaigning for changes in the organ donation law in Northern Ireland is genuinely inspiring.

“Through Dáithí’s Law, you are providing crucial support to others in similar situations. This is a significant accomplishment.

“In your father’s words: “exceptional things happen for exceptional people.” I wholeheartedly believe he is right and I’m thrilled to honor your bravery by naming you as the UK’s 2029th Point of Light.

“The entire nation stands with you as you continue your treatment.”
