The permit costs £20 per GOV.UK; it was £16 before the Home Office fee changes of 8 April 2026, and £10 when European applications opened in March 2025. You pay by credit or debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and the fee is not refundable.

Liechtenstein has no airport of its own, so most travellers fly from a nearby Swiss or Austrian airport such as Zurich. If your route includes a change of planes in the UK, remember that a connection through UK border control needs an ETA, while passengers who stay airside at Heathrow or Manchester currently do not need one, according to the Home Office.

Because the journey starts in Switzerland, give yourself time for the transfer from the principality on the day. The ETA itself does not change anything at Zurich; you simply travel on the passport linked to your approval, and the airline checks your permission to travel before you board.

Consiglio utile: Apply for the ETA well before you drive to Zurich, not at the airport. Many app applications are decided in minutes, but GOV.UK says it can take up to 3 working days, and you must not travel until you have the confirmation email.
