Cumbria company secures £8.4 million contract for Sellafield infrastructure project.

Carr’s Engineering Ltd has secured an £8.4m contract to provide instrument cabinets and shielding blocks for one of Sellafield’s major new-build infrastructure initiatives.

The necessary equipment will be manufactured and supplied to the ongoing SIXEP Continuity Plant (SCP) project at Sellafield, with installation to be carried out by long-standing supply chain partners Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick and Altrad Babcock, previously appointed to PPP, highlighting the collaborative nature of this partnership.

Carr’s Engineering comprises six firms that are all integral players in the Sellafield supply chain. For PPP, this includes Bendall’s Engineering Ltd, which will lead this new contract after previously supplying several critical tanks and vessels for the same SCP project.

We are delighted that Carr’s Engineering has achieved a significant contract win with PPP. This accomplishment is a tribute to the dedication of our entire team.

It also reflects the superior quality of our products and the strong, collaborative relationship we’ve established with PPP through the major projects being executed at Sellafield.

We look forward to the opportunity to continue delivering top-notch engineering design and manufacturing services to Sellafield and PPP.

Since the initiation of PPP in 2019, Sellafield has awarded contracts exceeding £3 billion.

The partnership is collaborating with approximately 200 suppliers across the UK, with 40% located in the north-west region. Nearly 70% of these suppliers are SMEs.

Duncan Elliott, head of the Programme and Project Partners, remarked:

I’m very pleased that PPP is growing its team with companies like Carr’s, as our partnership continues to aid Sellafield in executing its major infrastructure projects for the future.

It’s also encouraging to see local Cumbrian businesses like Carr’s and Bendalls expanding and diversifying, which will significantly benefit the region and contribute to long-term social impact.

Carr’s Engineering provides a variety of apprenticeships across its business in numerous fields. The firm actively supports local charities, sports clubs, and schools through volunteer efforts and donations.

The SCP project is one of six ongoing major infrastructure endeavors managed by PPP and its broader supply chain, with many additional projects anticipated over the duration of the long-term contract, which is instrumental in helping Sellafield fulfill the nationally significant infrastructure needed to clean up legacy waste on the site.
