Alex Chalk KC MP, has officially announced the appointment of Elisabeth Davies as the National Chair of the Independent Monitoring Boards (IMBs) for an initial duration of three years. <p>IMBs provide statutory and independent oversight, monitoring the treatment and care of prisoners and detainees. They operate in various settings including prisons, young offender institutions, immigration removal centres, certain short-term holding facilities, and on flights for individuals being removed from the UK.</p>

<h3 id="biography">Biography</h3>

<p>Elisabeth Davies possesses substantial experience within both charitable and public sectors, specializing in dispute resolution and consumer protection.</p>

<p>In April 2020, she assumed the role of Chair at the Office for Legal Complaints (OLC), which oversees the work of the Legal Ombudsman.</p>

<p>Elisabeth holds several professional positions across various organizations, including Chair of the Assurance and Appointments Committee of the General Pharmaceutical Council, and membership in the Civil Justice Council. Additionally, she has chaired the Prisoners’ Education Trust since late 2018 and previously served as Deputy Chair of Support Through Court, assisting individuals navigating the court process without legal representation.</p>

<p>Earlier in her career, Elisabeth was the Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Quality Committee at the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. She also held the position of Chair of the Legal Services Consumer Panel, ensuring that regulators addressed the user perspective effectively.</p>
