Do St Kitts and Nevis citizens need a UK ETA?

Yes. Since 8 January 2025 every St Kitts and Nevis passport holder must have an approved ETA before travelling to the UK for a short trip, as listed on the Home Office ETA National List. The federation sits in the January 2025 group with other Commonwealth Caribbean nations. This is a pre-travel check, not the old passport stamp on arrival, and not a full visa.

You will not visit an embassy or post your passport. A separate ETA is needed for each traveller, so two parents and one child file three applications. St Kitts and Nevis runs the world’s oldest citizenship-by-investment programme, launched in 1984, so many passport holders are naturalised rather than born on the islands. For the ETA, this makes no difference to your eligibility — a valid federation passport is a valid federation passport. What matters is honesty on the form.

The permit costs £20, the rate set on 8 April 2025 when the fee rose from £10, per GOV.UK. In East Caribbean dollars that is roughly XCD 67. You pay once, and the official app adds no card surcharge.

Getting to the UK from St Kitts: pick your connection

There is no direct flight from St Kitts to Britain, and your choice of connecting hub decides whether you need a second country’s permit. Route through the United States — via Miami, Charlotte or New York — and you also need a US visa, because St Kitts and Nevis is not in the US Visa Waiver Program. The federation’s own passport does not unlock a US ESTA.

The cleaner path for many is through Antigua. A short island hop to V.C.
